COVID-19 UPDATE

Omicron Variant

Alberta is taking action to protect Albertans against the highly transmissible Omicron variant by ramping up health system capacity, providing free rapid test kits, expanding vaccine boosters, and clarifying gathering limits.

Albertans are asked to reduce their number of contacts by half, limit unrestricted activities where there is a high risk of transmission, and observe all public health measures.

Masking  and two metres physical distancing is mandatory between households, or 2 close contacts for those living alone.  in all indoor spaces.  Mask exceptions for children under 2 years old or for medical reasons.

Mass Registration is not necessary at this time as there will be no contact tracing.

  • Masses are at 1/3 capacity or for the Shrine 140 people.

  • If we reach that number the doors will be locked.

  • We do not provide vaccine exemption letters for religious reasons.

No receptions in parish halls and facilities.

Pope's Intention for January 2022

Pope Francis: "How is it possible that many religious minorities currently suffer discrimination or persecution? How can we allow that in this society, which is so civilized, there are people who are persecuted simply because they publicly profess their faith? ... As human beings, we have so many things in common that we can live alongside each other, welcoming our differences with the joy of being brothers and sisters."

This month's attention: We pray for all those suffering from religious discrimination and persecution; may their own rights and dignity be recognized, which originate from being brothers and sisters in the human family.

Indigenous Delegation - Postponed

After careful assessment of the uncertainty and potential health risks surrounding international travel amid the recent spread of the Omicron variant, the Canadian Bishops, Assembly of First Nations, Métis National Council, and Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami have jointly decided to reschedule a delegation to the Vatican in December 2021 to the earliest opportunity in 2022.
